Master's in RAP - BAIP (BTP) Backend Developer with AI

Become an ABAP Cloud backend developer. The ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) is the programming model SAP uses to build S/4HANA applications and the mandatory path to Clean Core: if you are an ABAPer, it is the most profitable profile upgrade you can make today.

A 100% hands-on program on a real ABAP Cloud system: every class builds on a complete business object that ends up published as an OData service with its Fiori elements application, and you work with AI assistants integrated into your workflow from the very first class. The content covers the areas of the official SAP Certified Associate - Back-End Developer - ABAP Cloud exam.

  • 8 live 90-minute classes, one per week (Fridays)
  • Core technology: ABAP Cloud and RAP on SAP BTP ABAP Environment
  • Environment: Eclipse with ABAP Development Tools (ADT) and version control with abapGit and GitHub
  • AI-assisted development throughout the entire program
  • Preparation aligned with the official SAP Certified Associate - Back-End Developer - ABAP Cloud certification

    1st ed. Nov 13, 20262nd ed. Apr 9, 2027

ABAP Cloud: your professional environment, with AI from day one

Start the way SAP backend teams work today: cloud, ADT and AI assistants.

    View content
    • The ABAP RESTful model: what RAP is, why it is the S/4HANA standard and its role in the Clean Core strategy
    • The architecture of a RAP business object: data model, behavior and projection, managed and unmanaged scenarios
    • Your workstation: SAP BTP account, ABAP Environment instance, Eclipse with ADT and creating your ABAP Cloud project
    • Professional code backup: abapGit and a GitHub repository from day one
    • AI-assisted programming: Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and OpenCode with local and alternative models (DeepSeek, Qwen); when to use each in ABAP development
    • The data model for the program's case study: creating transparent tables in ADT and inserting data with ABAP classes

  2. Live class 2

    1st ed. Nov 20, 20262nd ed. Apr 16, 2027

Core Data Services and business services

The semantic data model that feeds everything else: from table to published OData service.

    View content
    • Root, interface and projection CDS entities: the layered architecture of a RAP business object
    • Parent-child compositions with composition and to parent, redirections (redirected to composition child and to parent) and additional associations
    • Entity hierarchies and relationships with the parent entity
    • Metadata extensions to separate UI annotations from the model, and abstract entities for structures without persistence
    • Business services: service definition, OData V4 service binding, endpoints and testing with Swagger and the Fiori elements preview

  3. Live class 3

    1st ed. Nov 27, 20262nd ed. Apr 23, 2027

User interface with Fiori elements, driven by annotations

A complete enterprise application without coding the interface: annotations are in charge.

    View content
    • List Report and Object Page headers: header information, columns and selection fields with @UI annotations
    • Filters, tabs and the detail view with facets
    • Buttons and actions in the interface, advanced searches and semantic keys
    • Search helps: wiring up value helps and additional field mapping
    • UI validations, translatable (localized) texts and text configuration
    • Hierarchical relationships with synchronization in the interface

  4. Live class 4

    1st ed. Dec 4, 20262nd ed. Apr 30, 2027

Behavior Definition Language: the behavior contract

The transactional heart of RAP: what your business object can do and under which rules.

    View content
    • Behavior definition in a managed scenario with strict mode: persistence, instance locking (lock master), authorization control and ETag master
    • Key management with UUIDs (numbering : managed) and mapping between CDS and table
    • Static field control (readonly, mandatory) and dynamic field control with features
    • Create, update and delete operations, prechecks (precheck) and actions: generic, with parameters, internal and determine actions
    • Determinations, validations and side effects declared in the contract

  5. Live class 5

    1st ed. Dec 11, 20262nd ed. May 7, 2027

Draft, behavior pools and behavior projections

Draft editing just like the standard S/4HANA apps, and the implementation under the hood.

    View content
    • The complete draft scenario: draft persistence table, total ETag and late numbering
    • Draft actions (Edit, Activate, Discard, Resume), draft determine actions and internal draft actions
    • Collaborative draft: the share action, collaboration query and access control
    • Behavior pool and behavior handlers as local classes; behavior definition interfaces and projections, using features in the projection layer
    • The RAP execution cycle and save sequence: the internal sequence every RAP developer must master
    • Full evaluation in the interface: CUD, draft, concurrency and late numbering working end to end
