Master's in BAIP (BTP) - Mobile Service

Become one of the few SAP mobile developers on the market. SAP Mobile Services is the platform companies use to put their S/4HANA processes in the pockets of their employees: field technicians, warehouses, sales and maintenance.

Almost nobody masters it and almost nobody teaches it. In 5 intensive classes you build a complete enterprise mobile application: native, with SAP data, offline mode with synchronization, push notifications and managed deployment from the SAP Mobile Services cockpit on BTP.

  • 5 live 90-minute classes, one per week (Mondays)
  • Core technology: SAP Mobile Services on SAP BTP and the Mobile Development Kit (MDK)
  • Environment: SAP Business Application Studio and your own phone (iOS or Android) as the test device
  • The full SAP mobile stack: MDK, native SDKs for iOS and Android, Mobile Back-End Tools and Mobile Cards
  • A niche specialization: high demand in logistics, maintenance and sales force projects, and very little training on offer

The journey, class by class

Each week you build on a real application. The journey ends with a final project and certification preparation.

SAP Mobile Services: the mobile platform of SAP BTP

The control center from which all SAP enterprise mobile apps are managed.

    View content
    • The current SAP mobile stack and where each piece fits: MDK, the SAP BTP SDK for iOS and Android, Mobile Back-End Tools, Mobile Cards and SAP Mobile Start
    • Subscribing to and configuring SAP Mobile Services in an SAP BTP subaccount: service plans and the administration cockpit
    • Anatomy of an app in the cockpit: security (OAuth, API key), Mobile Connectivity with destinations to OData, Mobile Settings Exchange and the application lifecycle
    • Operations and support from day one: client log upload, network traces, usage analytics and client version control
    • User onboarding: activation QR code, authentication against the BTP identity provider and passcode policies

Mobile Development Kit I: your first multichannel app

The metadata-driven framework that lets an SAP developer build native apps without being a Swift or Kotlin expert.

    View content
    • The metadata-driven approach of MDK: what is defined in metadata and what the native runtime generates on iOS, Android and web
    • An MDK project in SAP Business Application Studio: the mobile development dev space, project structure and visual editors
    • The three artifacts that govern the app: pages (.page), actions (.action) and rules (.rule) written in JavaScript
    • Native Fiori UI controls: Object Table, Form Cell, sections and navigation between pages
    • The deploy and run cycle: deploying to Mobile Services, activation in the SAP Mobile Services client via QR and web execution from a single code base

Mobile Development Kit II: OData data and offline mode

The capability that justifies the whole program: apps that work without coverage and sync on their own.

    View content
    • Consuming OData services from MDK: service initialization, queries, filters and data binding to controls
    • Full CRUD operations from the phone: CreateEntity, UpdateEntity and DeleteEntity actions with validations in JavaScript rules
    • The offline OData store: encrypted local storage, defining queries and starting the app with no connection
    • Two-way synchronization: upload and download actions, delta tracking and a field data strategy
    • Conflict resolution and error handling: the Error Archive, 409 errors, retries and the recovery patterns real projects demand

Mobile Back-End Tools, push notifications and Mobile Cards

The services that turn a decent app into a complete mobile solution.

    View content
    • Mobile Back-End Tools (MBT): modeling the CSDL metadata and generating an offline-optimized OData service with no pre-existing backend required
    • Deploying the generated service to Cloud Foundry and consuming it from the MDK app through Mobile Connectivity
    • End-to-end push notifications: configuring APNs (iOS) and Firebase FCM (Android), push registrations in the cockpit and sending from the Push REST API
    • Reacting to the notification in the MDK client: contextual navigation when a push arrives
    • Mobile Cards: SAP content in card format on the phone with query and instance templates, without developing a full app

Native SDKs for iOS and Android, decision criteria and final project

The complete map to choose the right technology on every project and defend it in front of a client.

    View content
    • SAP BTP SDK for iOS: the Assistant that generates a complete Swift project, the SAPFiori, SAPOData and SAPFioriFlows frameworks and native Fiori controls on iOS
    • SAP BTP SDK for Android: the generation wizard, Kotlin development, the Fiori UI library and Jetpack Compose support
    • Onboarding, security and offline with the native SDKs: the same cockpit services, consumed from native code
    • Decision criteria with the up-to-date SAP catalog: MDK versus native SDKs versus responsive web, which technologies SAP retired recently and why that affects you
    • Final project: an end-to-end integrated mobile application (OData backend, offline app, push and publication) reviewed by the instructor

Final project

Final project: an end-to-end enterprise mobile application

You build an integrated mobile application from start to finish and defend it in front of the instructor: an OData backend, an app with offline mode and synchronization, push notifications and managed publication from the SAP Mobile Services cockpit. You leave with the hands-on skills field projects demand (logistics, maintenance and sales force) and with the judgment to choose between MDK, native SDKs and responsive web for each case.

It is a niche specialization, with very little training on offer and high demand in the market.
