What it is and why it matters

GSD 2 stopped being an orchestration layer inside Claude Code and is now a standalone coding CLI built on the Python SDK. Its approach breaks a large idea into phases and tasks, running each task in its own context under the rule that a task must fit in a single context window. It offers an auto mode for autonomous work and a more hands-on step mode.

Chase AI 2026-03-17 In a head-to-head test against Claude Code (an expense app), GSD 2 took about an hour and a half and cost roughly 30 dollars in API, with several hangs; the reviewer concludes its value does not justify leaving the Claude Code ecosystem for simple tasks.
