What it is and why it matters
FFmpeg is the reference command-line tool for manipulating audio and video, and acts as the base layer under many AI generation workflows. In the workflows shown, a coding agent can call it directly for tasks like scene detection, transcript extraction, trimming, reversing and stitching clips, or final multiplexing. Its presence is usually invisible: other tools rely on it underneath for the heavy media lifting.
Key points
- Deep media manipulation: scene detection, transcript extraction and final multiplexing
- A coding agent can invoke it via prompt, for example to copy, reverse and stitch a clip into a loop
- Acts as the base under AI video frameworks; used underneath without the user seeing it
