What it is and why it matters

OpenMontage is an open-source framework that orchestrates the whole video production process, from research to final render, on top of coding assistants like Claude Code or Cursor. Its base rule is that the Python code holds no creative logic: intelligence lives in text files (YAML pipeline manifests, Markdown skills) and the code only runs mechanical calls. Between each stage it inserts checkpoints that by default require human approval before spending API credits.

Key points

  • Three-layer architecture: YAML manifests, Markdown skills and Python execution tools, with the model acting as a router
  • Rigid, deterministic pipeline with human-approval checkpoints between stages to limit hallucinations and spend
  • Hybrid Python (orchestration) and Node.js (Remotion rendering) stack with FFmpeg underneath; local key-free mode or cloud APIs
