What it is and why it matters
FluidVoice is a macOS dictation app that does all speech recognition on-device, without sending audio to the cloud. It uses a local model (Parakeet) to transcribe and a second model that cleans up capitalization, punctuation and formatting as you speak. The videos compare it with Wispr Flow and Superwhisper: free, open source and private, but for now Mac-only and best on Apple Silicon.
Key points
- All processing is local: your voice and text never leave your Mac
- Two models: one transcribes (Parakeet) and one cleans punctuation and formatting on the fly
- Limits: Mac-only (iOS and Windows on waitlist), editor model around 3.5 GB
Where we saw it
Better Stack 2026-07-10 In a VS Code demo, the host shows it runs fully local, auto-capitalizing and punctuating, and rates it above Wispr Flow and Superwhisper for being free, private and doing the cleanup on the machine itself. Open-Source Dictation Is Here… Goodbye Subscriptions The Next New Thing 2026-07-04 The hosts compare speed against Wispr Flow, praise the real-time text preview and the custom name dictionary, and warn that the install can appear stuck for several minutes before finishing. Free, local audio dictation. Better than Wispr Flow, Superwhisper & Apple’s dictation
