MCP consolidates as the standard for giving agents tools

The Model Context Protocol goes from novelty to infrastructure: server catalogs and pieces that give the assistant real machine control.

If 2025 was the year the Model Context Protocol appeared, 2026 is the year it became infrastructure. The standard way to connect an agent to external tools is no longer debated: you implement an MCP server. The catalog of reference servers keeps growing.

On top of that base, concrete pieces appear. Desktop Commander, for instance, gives the assistant terminal control, filesystem search and diff-based file editing. Worth noting that the videos themselves had a healthy debate about how much of this assistants already do natively.

For us this is familiar ground: we publish our own suite of MCP servers for SAP (ADT/ABAP, Integration Suite, BTP). The standard is maturing, and with it the chance to bring agents to real work, not just toy tasks.
